Following eight successful runs at the Fringe Semi-Toned are back with their new show Castaway.

Semi-Toned certainly know how to put on a great show. With a slick vocals and clever harmonies and arrangements, they are a well oiled a cappella machine. The set mixes modern and classic pop hits much to the crowds delight. ABBA’s ‘SOS’ and ‘Escape (The Piña Colada Song)’ are instant hits with the audience and ‘Glimpse of Us’ shows off Semi-Toned’s romantic side.

In between the musical numbers is a humorous script which is delivered with good comic timing. Although some of the jokes were questionable, it certainly has the audience laughing out loud.

The vocals are excellent throughout with great harmonies and arrangements to show off individuals as well as the group sound. In addition, the vocal percussion solo by Ollie Baker is certainly impressive. Semi-Toned know how to get the audience on the side and it is very clear from the outset that this is a show to bop and clap along to. Whilst the choreography is somewhat ‘show choir-esque’, it works well and utilises the full stage.

Semi-Toned provide upbeat, fun and lively entertainment. They are well seasoned singers with excellent voices and certainly know how to put on a show. This is one not to be missed!
