This comedy musical from the Olivier Award-winners behind Fleabag, Baby Reindeer and A Super Happy Story returns to Edinburgh following a hugely successful run in 2022. Kathy and Stella may be Hull’s least successful true crime podcasters but when their favourite author is killed they are thrown into their own case of whodunnit as they try to stop the killer before they strike again.

Kathy and Stella Solve A Murder is a hilarious new musical! With clever twists, superb vocals and loveable characters it is obvious why this show has been sold out for most of the Fringe this year. Bronté Barbé and Rebekah Hinds are both brilliant in their roles as the quirky, misfits. Their characterisation is fantastic as are their vocals which are both impressive individually and when they sing together. Jodie Jacobs wows the audience with her various characters and powerhouse vocals. The sarcastic comedy mixed with slapstick humour is excellent throughout the show with a hilarious script by Jon Brittain.

The original score, by Matthew Floyd Jones, is both funny and catchy. With some songs already being available for download they are definitely earworms waiting to happen.

The technical side of the performance is what you’d expect from a large scale Fringe show at Underbelly – the lighting, by Peter Small, is bright and colourful and the use of lit up devices such as phones and laptops works excellently. It’s also brilliant to see an onstage four piece band, who also take part in some of the onstage action too.

Kathy and Stella Solve A Murder is fast moving, unpredictable and laugh out loud funny. At its heart this show is about friendship and is a brilliant night out. Fun, farcical and loud – this is certainly a show to watch out for. It is already playing at Bristol and Manchester after its Fringe run and is definitely worthy of a London transfer.
