Jinxed: theSpace @ Niddry St Lower Theatre
20th August 2024
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Illuminations A Cappella are back to the Fringe with their new show, Jinxed. This set boasts to have hilarious mishaps and ear-wormy tunes as the cursed Generation 13 stumble through the competition season, preparing a set that the world wasn’t ready for.
Having had sold out shows at the last three Edinburgh Fringe Festivals and being a multi award-winning group the audience are in safe hands. This group are slick, polished and confident. The fun and upbeat group have a great songs of action including a favourite with the audience, a lively mashup of ABBA songs. Every song fits the shows theme perfectly whilst still displaying a range of genres. Their version of ‘Summer Rain’ is particularly moving and well arranged. This is a group who value every voice, not just the soloist, and features and award-winning beatboxer ‘Aspie’ who has a fantastic solo section.

This is Illuminations 7th year performing at the Fringe and they are very self-assured and confident with lively choreography and superb arrangements and dynamics. It is easy to see how this a cappella group have recently placed third in the UK in this year’s International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella (ICCA). They give a slick and polished performance, that’s definitely not one to miss.
