Popstars: The Final Riff Off: Upper Theatre (Thrust) – theSpace @ Niddry St
20th August 2024
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This year, The Rolling Tones are back and ready to take the audience on a battle to end all battles… an a cappella riff-off. This award-winning group from London’s King’s College performs a wild ride of iconic hits from The Pussycat Dolls, Blaque, and more. Returning to the glory days of 90’s/00’s girl groups, this is the ultimate battle between old and new.
The Rolling Tones are sassy, sexy and full of girl power. The vocals are on point and the strong choreography is performed well. You could be mistaken for thinking that you are at a pop concert. These girls certainly have some attitude and definitely know how to sing! The story about a conflict ‘The Milkshake Curse’ is well interweaved between the strong vocal sections. Every member of this group is confident and is able to perform not only brilliant vocals but also great expressions and confidently deliver lines.

This is a modern girl power show – think Pussycat Dolls meets Girl’s Aloud with some brilliant riffs, as you’d expect from the title of the show. The large group is split into two teams battling to be named the best and each performance is very well arranged and performed with some of the larger whole group sections being particularly strong. Popstars: The Final Riff Off has a powerful and strong set and is definitely some of the best female only a cappella out there at the Fringe this year.
