⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change by Wolverhampton Grand Theatre has been impressing audiences at this year’s Fringe. The hilarious and heartfelt musical tackles modern love in all its forms. From the perils and pitfalls of the first date to marriage, children, and the twilight years of life. I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change  by Joe DiPietro, and Jimmy Roberts is the second-longest running Off-Broadway musical and was nominated for the Outer Critics Circle Award as Outstanding Off-Broadway musical in 1997. It has been performed all over the world and translated into 17 different languages and now it’s taking up residence in Edinburgh for this year’s Fringe.

The talented cast give a very professional production of this musical. The vocals are clear and strong and work well together. The cast manage to play many characters well, with larger than life characteristics to add to the comedy. Each of the cast have their moments to shine with some brilliant solo numbers and they play off each other excellently. This is well written romantic comedy and it manages to hit the mark with the audience laughing along to the couples we see onstage, whether on their first awkward date or have been married for years.

It is in the style of a musical revue rather than a full story but this allows the audience to see a snapshot of many relationships. The pace is good, although towards the end the scenes could be trimmed back. The use of the stage is also very clever, having four main entrances, or doorways, through which the characters change. There is a lot of traffic onstage and props but this small cast manage the transitions well to ensure that the whole audience can see the action.

If you are a fan of musicals then this is a great show to catch at this year’s Fringe. With its talented cast, witty script and show stopping numbers be sure to watch it during its final days in Edinburgh.
