Warped: Grand Theatre – theSpace @ Surgeons’ Hall
21st August 2024
⭐️⭐️⭐️
Perfect Forth are returning to Edinburgh after their successful run of Athena at last year’s Fringe. This year’s production, Warped, is about reflection: what we see in the mirror, and reflecting on ourselves and where we belong. Featuring award-winning soloists, writers and vocal percussion, Warped is a collective of artists sharing their voices and thoughts on feeling at home in our own bodies.

The arrangements of the songs are good and they are performed well. The choreography is simple but effective and the performers move well around the stage. There are some lovely harmonies and dynamics in this set with ‘Wild Horses’ being a particularly strong number. The well arranged songs are accompanied by some subtle vocal percussion. Unfortunately during this performance, the amplification wasn’t great and at times the soloists could not be heard clearly. This is a diverse group and clearly they have talent but the performance felt somewhat lacking, particularly compared to their Fringe show last year. However, it is nice to see an a capella group which is not a university group and Perfect Forth definitely deserve their place at the Fringe.
