Out of the Blue – Ed Fringe 2024

Out of the Blue: Gordon Aikman Theatre – Assembly George Square

22nd August 2024

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

After enjoying a number of years of sold-out runs and highest grossing non-professional shows at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, Out of the Blue are back. This is a well oiled team who certainly know about how to put on a great a capella show. Having appeared on Britain’s Got Talent and performed around the world, the internationally acclaimed a cappella group from the University of Oxford return to the Fringe to showcase new talent and new songs. This show boasts to have tighter harmonies, crazier choreography and enough high notes to reach the stratosphere – something for everyone.

There is certainly something for everyone in this set from a Frozen medley to modern songs, Grease to a hilarious Britney Spears mash up. Out Of The Blue are seasoned pros, with this being their 20th year at the Fringe. So audiences expectations are high and it is a large venue but their show feels very professional with moving lights, hand mics and even in ears. Their harmonies are spot on and the songs are well arranged and performed. Some of the fun, upbeat choreography could be tighter but it definitely gets the audience clapping along. This is a well polished a capella group and they know how to perform. Each number is sung excellently but it may be nice to have a theme of some sorts. However, if you have seen Out Of The Blue before, or you are a newcomer drawn in off the streets you can be assured a smooth ride with great vocals.
