First Aid – Ed Fringe 2025

First Aid: Greenside, Lime Studio

19th August 2025

★★

First Aid follows Simon and Sophie on their disastrous first date, which lands them both in A&E. Stuck in the waiting room for hours, they have time to really get to know each other. Cardigan Productions’ First Aid promises plenty of laughs, unexpected romance and a healthy dose of heart.

Unfortunately, this one fell flat. It doesn’t quite know what it is. It’s not funny enough to be a comedy nor is it romantic enough to be a romance or heartfelt enough to be emotional. There are a few moments where the jokes do land and the audience laugh but on the whole it is very underwhelming and an even a little boring in parts.

This isn’t to say that the idea behind First Aid isn’t good because actually there are some clever lyrics and tunes which work well. They just aren’t strong enough to save this show. The performances are okay but needed to have more confidence and character to them. The cast are not using microphones, which in itself is fine but at times did mean that the lyrics were hard to hear.

This is a very simple musical, also quite short being only around 45 minutes. It’s not offensive and it’s certainly not going to be the worst thing on offer at the Fringe but equally it’s not memorable and there are times when the audience’s attention drifts. The good thing about the Fringe is the sheer amount of shows and variety meaning there is something for everyone and lots of shows to see and take a gamble on. So this one is worth a visit to make your own judgements.
