Aquapella: Gilded Balloon at the Museum – Auditorium
20th August 2025
★★★★★
Fresh from their acclaimed performances across the UK and on Broadway, Bath’s premier award-winning a cappella group Aquapella is back at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe for their ninth consecutive year. This award-winning a cappella group brings an electrifying mix of vocal music to the stage.
Aquapella don’t need any gimmicks or scripted gags in their show. Instead they focus purely on the vocals and so they should as they are outstanding. The arrangements are beautiful, rich and layered and the dynamics really add to each song.

Vocally there are no weak links. Each performer has their role to play and they work together like a well oiled machine. Aquapella’s show selection is a particular highlight of this show especially ‘Close to You’ where the arrangement is simply gorgeous, allowing for a moment of stillness on the stage where the individual voices blend to create something very moving. There are some upbeat numbers too, a superb Scottish medley and even a beatboxing demonstration. The choreography is slick and polished making it easy to forget that this group is not made up of professionals.

Put simply Aquapella are outstanding and create magic onstage. This is their ninth Ed Fringe and they have grown and grown each year to now be one of the most successful groups onstage and with arrangements and vocals like this it is easy to see why. This is a definite must see this year.
