West End Does: Christmas: Cadogan Hall, London
1st December 2018
What better way to kick off the festive season than putting a bunch of outstanding West End performers in a stunning venue with an orchestra singing Christmas songs? Following on from the success of West End Does: Bond and West End Does: Halloween the latest instalment from West End Does was just as impressive. Featuring a host of well-known performers such as Eva Noblezada, Jamie Muscato, Willemijn Vilkaik, Marisha Wallace, Emma Kingston, Louise Dearman and many more, West End Does: Christmas certainly was a concert with star appeal.
Audience members were treated to carols performed by Stage Box Kids in the foyer and with mulled wine and mince pies on offer. This was a brilliant way to get into the Christmas spirit, despite the dull rainy weather outside. To top it off West End Does was supporting the Make A Wish Foundation UK – a charity who help to fulfil life changing wishes for children with critical illnesses.
With Warwick Davis hosting the show, from the comfort for a well placed armchair on the corner of the stage, the audience was treated so some favourite Christmas classics including ‘White Christmas’, ‘Joyful, Joyful’, ‘Baby It’s Cold Outside’ and ‘Oh Holy Night’. Eva Noblezada blew the audience away with her magical vocals, not only this but she also managed to get everyone clapping and singing along as she sang the hit ‘All I Want For Christmas’.
Willemijn Verkaik brought the roof down with ‘Let It Go‘. The power and determination behind her vocals was so impressive. This song alone further proves that she should definitely be cast in Frozen! Her opening number ‘Where Are You Christmas?’ was also gorgeous as the audience were treated to some more delicate, subtle vocals.
Marisha Wallace certainly showed everyone how vibrant and fun Gospel singing is with ‘Joyful, Joyful’ which was a showcase of talent as Sing Gospel joined her to raise the spirits of everyone. Sing Gospel supported some of the numbers providing cleverly arranged backing vocals and harmonies and did a super job. Their own song of ‘Hallelujah Chorus’ was also brilliant.
Stage Box Musical Theatre performed ‘When Christmas Comes To Town‘ and ‘Build A Snowman’ brilliantly. Talented beyond their years, a special mention must go to the soloists all of whom were fantastically talented. The talented dancers from Urdang also helped to set the scene, particularly during Rob Houchen’s witty song ‘You’re A Mean One Mr Grinch‘. Jamie Muscato’s rich, deep vocals were perfect for ‘It’s Beginning to Look A Lot Like Christmas‘ and during his duet with Louise Dearman.
There were no weak links in this star-studded cast and together with the outstanding orchestra created a fun-filled festive concert, just right to get everyone in the Christmas spirit! Even Father Christmas was seen joining in with the fun! Anyone who is a fan of musical theatre or even just superb singing should definitely check out West End Does as you can be guaranteed a great show!
