Steps in Concert (plus special guests Vengaboys) – O2 Arena, London

Friday 24th November 2017.

To celebrate their 20th Anniversary the 90’s pop legends Steps have released a new album entitled Tears on The Dancefloor and embarked on an arena tour. Appealing to fans old and new the tour is a feast for the eyes and will certainly get the audience on their feet, singing and dancing along!

Latest album out now.

With a mixture of old time classics and newer songs, the set list catered for everyone. Classic hits such as ‘Deeper Shade of Blue’, ‘5, 6, 7, 8’, ‘Better The Devil You Know’ and Chain Reaction managed to get everyone out of their seats, dancing along. Whilst the newer songs like ‘Tears on The Dancefloor’ and ‘Neon Blue‘ also were met with cheers of approval.

The new music is still completely in keeping with the Steps sound. Catchy songs with easy to remember lyrics. Most songs heavily rely on the three female members Faye Tozer, Claire Richards and Lisa Scott-Lee with Ian (H) Watkins and Lee Latchford-Evans providing harmonies and the occasional one liners. All of the members did a great job of singing their hits whilst still pulling off the iconic dance routines. The sound quality was generally good for such a large venue and the songs showed each members’ strengths. Particularly Faye Tozer who wowed with her vocals.

The digital backdrops were superb and the excellent lighting meant that the party atmosphere was felt by everyone. From the first number everyone was on their feet, ready for a party reminiscing on the past 20 years of hits and the catchy songs and dance routines. In addition, the dancers were put to good use and helped add something to the show rather than just dance alongside the main act, this was particularly evident during the montage section.

Full of catchy hits and a real party spirit this show definitely serves to remind us that cheesy 90’s pop certainly has its place and you can’t beat a good old boogie. So grab your ticket and stomp on down! It’ll be a tragedy if you miss it.
